The Hair Health Issue
For our Hair Health Issue, Dafina Smith looks beyond the finished result to explore the care, restraint and curiosity shaping the future of professional hair artistry.
Hannah Roberson · The Hair Health Issue
Hair by Angela Goff and Alison Wright
On the Cover: Hannah Roberson
For our 2026 Hair Health Issue, Hannah Roberson takes center stage in a story about individuality, thoughtful artistry and the beauty of hair that still feels like your own.
Brought to life by Angela Goff and Alison Wright, Hannah's look features a custom blend of Dubai and Lisbon in The Coveted Weft. The result is seamless length, natural movement and a dimensional finish that enhances rather than overpowers.
A reminder that the most beautiful transformations don't change who you are. They bring more of you forward.
Where Craft Begins
From Vietnam to Italy, Dafina Smith follows the people, processes and precision behind Covet & Mane. The best innovation begins by getting closer—to the material, the makers and the people who understand the craft intimately. Behind every finished product is a much longer story of curiosity, collaboration and care.
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam · Milan, Italy
Some of the most meaningful parts of creating Covet & Mane happen long before the hair reaches a stylist's chair. The journey continued in Milan, Italy, where Dafina met with the formulation partners behind the Covet Labs Pro Color collection.
Inside Covet Labs
Cosmetic chemist Nick Dindio takes us inside the thinking, testing and restraint behind formulas created specifically for natural and extension hair.
Care, Curiosity & Craft
We wanted to look beyond the finished result and explore the many factors that influence healthy hair long before an extension is installed. We spoke with dermatologists, chemists, educators, extension artists and stylists about the work clients may never see: reducing weight, refining placement, recognizing when shedding deserves a closer look and knowing when the most responsible recommendation is a medical referral. Again and again, we returned to the same idea: restraint is a form of expertise.
Because the future of professional hair artistry is not about doing the most—it is about knowing what matters most. Healthy hair is not a finish. It is a practice, and one we are proud to keep refining with you.
The Patience of Progress
"Hair is emotional, expressive and deeply personal, but it also carries information. A change in density, shedding or scalp comfort may be part of a larger story. The role of a great professional is not to diagnose that story. It is to notice, document, ask thoughtful questions and recognize when another expert belongs in the conversation.
Throughout this issue, we consider the many variables that influence hair health—from the scalp microbiome and expected move-up shedding to stress, sleep, water, heat and the emerging conversation around GLP-1 medications. None exist in isolation, and few offer a single, universal answer. The work is in learning how to observe them together.
Ultimately, this issue is about trust: between stylist and client, formulation and performance, education and innovation. Trust is not earned through a single transformation or one successful formula. It is built slowly, through systems that hold up, care that feels personal and standards that remain steady.
Thank you for holding us to that standard—and for continuing to raise it with us."
—Dafina, Editor in Chief
