Washing & Brushing Guide

Two habits, done correctly, do more for extension longevity than almost anything else.

Washing and brushing seem basic — which is exactly why they get overlooked. Getting these two habits right is one of the highest-leverage things a client can do at home to protect their investment. This is the guide to send home after every install.

Avoid Over-Washing

Once or twice a week is the standard to set. Over-washing strips moisture and shortens extension lifespan.

Always Brush Before Showering

A quick brush before getting into the shower helps prevent tangling and matting once hair is wet and more fragile.

Detergents Are Not Your Friend

A sulfate-free shampoo protects both hair color and extension longevity. This is worth calling out specifically — sulfates are a common, avoidable mistake.

Thoroughly Cleanse

Wefts need full cleansing in between washes, and conditioner needs to be completely rinsed out. Leftover product buildup is a frequent, preventable issue.

Use a Lightweight Detangler

A lightweight detangler and heat protectant after washing sets hair up for an easier, lower-damage styling process.

Use a Lightweight Hair Oil or Serum

During drier months, a lightweight oil or serum 2–3 times a week on the ends helps lock in moisture without buildup.

Brush Hair Multiple Times a Day

Pinch the hair like a ponytail and brush from the bottom up, multiple times a day, to avoid matting and tangling before it starts.

Brush Each Row Individually

Starting mid-way and working up to the top of the weft protects the bond and prevents unnecessary tension.

Use a Clarifying Shampoo

Every 4–6 weeks, a clarifying shampoo removes product buildup, deposits, and impurities that dry out hair over time.

Use a Light Conditioner

Heavier conditioners build up over time. A lighter formula keeps hair manageable without the buildup trade-off.

After Showering

Squeeze hair dry, apply a leave-in conditioner, and wrap hair in a towel turban to absorb excess water without friction damage.
